Strong anti-Western sentiments are beginning to grow in regions across the Muslim-world over the burning of the Muslim holy book – the Koran by a US pastor in Florida.
President Barack Obama condemned the pastor’s burning of the Koran, calling it an act of “extreme intolerance and bigotry”.
The crime of the burning of the Muslim Holy book the Koran happened in Florida, U.S.A but sadly its effects have been felt thousands of miles away in Afghanistan where anti-Western sentiments have grown to such an extent they have become deadly. The burning of the Koran resulted into violent protests and demonstrations in Kandahar that have so far claimed the lives of at least twenty people – including seven UN workers based in the region. This is totally unbelievable! How can this be happening in this time and age?
President Obama condemned the violent protestors’ acts saying that attacking and killing innocent people in response is outrageous. I totally agree with the President. Anyone who commits the crime of killing an innocent person or people who had no hands in the burning of the Koran is not doing the right thing. That act is as senseless as the burning of the Koran in itself.
Reports that came from Kandahar had it that two policemen were also killed in the violent clashes with protestors. The police men died in an explosion caused by protestors setting fire to a gas canister.
Asked if he felt responsible for the deaths, Pastor Terry Jones the perpetrator of the crime of burning the holy Koran said that he and his church do not feel responsible for the deaths that are occurring worldwide from the burning of the Koran. According to Pastor Terry Jones, the radical elements of Islam have seized the opportunity of the burning of the Koran to commit further violence against innocent souls.
The defiant pastor insists that the Koran incites violence and has vowed to lead an anti-Islam protest outside the biggest mosque in America in Michigan on the 22nd of April.
Government officials in Afghanistan and Pakistan are reported to have called on the US government to arrest Mr. Jones.
But that does not seem like something that is going to happen as Pastor Terry Jones actions are legal according to the United States laws of freedom of speech. Pastor Terry Jones said in an interview that his aim is to make the world aware of the radical element of Islam.
