Sneezing is a reflexive action, which means it is an action that you have no control over. Whether you like it or not, when it comes you will have to sneeze. But did you know that in as much as sneezing is an involuntary action, there are ways to stop a sneeze.
In this article, we are going to take a look at how to go about stopping yourself from sneezing. But before we go about looking at how to go about stopping a sneeze, we must first know what causes a sneeze. When we know that then we can control or stop a sneeze.
So what causes a sneeze?
A sneeze happens when the body forcifully expels air from the mouth and nose. The main reason why a sneeze happens is to expel or remove foreign particles or materials from the nasal cavity. A person might sneeze when exposed to cold or when the person is suddenly exposed to bright light. Another factor that may lead to a person sneezing is viral infections.
So how do you prevent a sneeze?
There are several ways that we could use to go about preventing a sneeze. The methods are as follows:
1. Exhale deeply. When you feel the sudden urge to sneeze and you instantly begin to exhale deeply then you can prevent yourself from sneezing. How does this work? Simply because of the fact that when you exhale deeply, the air in your lungs that would have otherwise been instrumental in the process of sneezing is no more. Therefore it would be utterly impossible to sneeze.
2. Next time you feel like sneezing and you don't want to sneeze, then try blowing your nose. Studies have shown that when you do this, it would be impossible for you to sneeze.
3. Next time you feel like sneezing and want to prevent a sneeze from coming then try pressing the top of your upper lip with your finger and you'd see that the sneeze would not come.
4. Experts have said that eating more oranges can help immensely in the prevention of too much sneezing. 5. Haven't you noticed that your eyes automatically close whenever you sneeze. It therefore means that if you want to prevent a sneeze from happening then you can simply force your eyelids open each time you feel the sensation to sneeze. If you are able to hold your eyelids open then you can prevent the sneeze from occuring.
The above are some of the basic ways to prevent a sneeze. There are so many other ways to go about stoping a sneeze from happening. In my next column, we would take a look at some of these great ways to stop a sneeze.
