This is going to be a very interesting article on foods that you never knew have been banned. You might ask yourself, if it is a food then how can it be banned? Without further ado let us take a look at the list of some of the foods that have been banned.
• Tomato Ketchup – who would have ever believed that the tomato ketchup was something that ended up getting banned. The tomato ketchup was first made as way back as 1876 by HJ Heinz. HJ Heinz created the tomato ketchup by a simple procedure which involved three main ingredients, namely tomatoes, sugar and vinegar. These three ingredients were mixed together before boiling. The tomato ketchup gradually became one of the most demanded product in the United States and Europe. But sadly the tomato ketchup was banned in France. According to the French government, the reason the tomato ketchup was banned was because they wanted to promote their French cuisine. The tomato ketchup was not banned all over France but in schools because they felt that school children should acquaint themselves with something French and not something foreign.
• Horse Meat – a lot of people love horse meat. According to most horse meat lovers interviewed, horse meat is a very delicious delicacy that they would not trade for any other meat. Horse meat was however banned in Europe in 732 but several years later the ban on the consumption of horse meat was lifted. In the United States, it was also illegal to slaughter horses for meat. The ban came into effect in 2006 but was lifted five years later. Today horse meat is consumed all over Europe, Australia and the United States.
• Shark fins are to many people a great delicacy. But today many people who love to eat sharks are going to struggle to get a taste of their favorite delicacy as several countries today are banning shark hunting. Many countries like the United States, Canada and the continent Europe are saying no to shark finning due to the cruel way the hunters obtain the shark fins. What these hunters do is after cruelly capturing the shark, they cut off the fins of the animal and throw the fish back into the water while it is still bleeding. So today the consumption of shark fins is something that has been banned in several countries all over the world. According to me I think having rigid shark finning laws is one of the best things any country can ever do.
